Dr. Gerhard Heyer
Prof.
Dr. Gerhard Heyer has studied at Cambridge University and
the University of the Ruhr at Bochum, where he received
his Ph.D. in 1983. He has then been responsible for research
and development of language and multi-media products within
the Olivetti Group, including ESPRIT projects Translator´s
Workbench, Translator´s Workbench II, and MultiLex.
Prof. Heyer presently holds the chair on Automatic Language
Processing at the computer science department of the University
of Leipzig. He also is co-founder and share holder of text:tech
GmbH, Leipzig, a company specializing in the content-oriented
processing of very large amounts of texts. Prof. Heyer has
broad experience and expertise in the theoretical foundations,
state-of-the art research and development of automatic content
driven text processing, in particular with respect to meta-tag
structuring, ontologies, and search engines. He will advise
the project management on management and technological issues
during all phases of the project. His main focus will be
on issues of ontologies, specification, and evaluation.
In cooperation with the University of Leipzig he will make
available to the consortium one of the largest multi-lingual
data bases of domain specific terms that has been set up
at his department during the last years.
